Education

I recommenced computing studies part time via open universities. I deferred studies in 2012 due to gaining more growth from real work, than I was getting from paying to learn.

After experiencing first hand how hard it is for universities to keep up with the pace of technology, I'm now a very big advocate of self directed learning coupled with mentorship.

Projects

  • EnableMe

EnableMe is a community platform built to solve a critical problem that was being faced by survivors of stroke. After leaving hospital there was very little in the way of support, other than any ongoing rehabilitation sessions. The National Stroke Foundation came to us to help develop a system that would allow stroke survivors to connect with each other, and share products, advice, resources and anything else that helped survivors in their physical and psychological rehabilitation.

This was a huge innovation in the rehabilitation process for stroke, as people were now getting access to information and tips form other people in the stroke survivor community, that would help them solve problems that they thought there were no solutions to.

The website is simple by design and contains a number of accessibility innovations that we were developed by working directly with stroke survivors. Under the hood, it's a robust system that connects data between three different web applications - EnableMe, it's sister site InformMe (for health professionals) and The Stroke Foundation website.

The EnableMe projects has had a world wide impact and has won awards from Sitecore, been honoured by The Webby Awards and is currently in the running for 2 AMIA's - Best Use Of Technology and Best Website Or Online Service.

Honors & Awards

  • Webby Awards Honoree (EnableMe)

    The Webby Awards

Honoured on the global scale by "The Oscars of the web" - The Webby Awards. This honor was given to EnableMe, a website we design and developed for The National Stroke Foundation to solve the problem of stroke survivors being left predominantly on their own once they leave hospital.

An extremely meaningful project and one of my proudest moments.

  • Best Use Of Connected Data (EnableMe Project)

    Sitecore Experience Awards

Project completed working as a contractor for Deepend alongside The National Stroke Foundation. I was a senior developer and helped architect the system with our lead developer Dan Rachele.
